My Travel Companion is like a House Cat
It's amazing. Given a surface with a horizontal component to it, Bob will fall asleep. Note that it does not matter how much sleep he has previously gotten, he will pass out. Immediately. It's very impressive.
I observed this feline trait of my gentleman friend over the course of our grueling 48-hour+ journey to Cape Town. While we are still fighting the effects of jet lag to some extent, we have been able to go "wandering" throughout and are pleased with our surroundings.
Our hostel is a mecca for long-term travelers. Talking to them inspires us when it comes to route planning but also reminds us of the ever-apparent reality that traveling is a bug for which there is no cure. As one 60+ year-old put it, "Once you've done it once or twice, that's it. You're done. You'll be traveling for the rest of your life."
Where we go from here remains to be seen. Our only agenda is that we fly out of Lusaka (in Zambia) on December 5. For the time being, we're happy to explore the Cape and all of the possibilities for our journey.
Peace out.

Just wanted to let you know that 77% of the people in the state of GA want an amendment that defines marriage as the union between a man and a woman...great.
This election has sickened me...but at least lots of folks showed up to vote.

Ha ha! Alabama's got Georgia beat: 50.09% of voting Alabamians voted AGAINST Amendment 2, which called for the removal of segregationist language from the state Constitution. And let's not forget that only in 2000 did Alabama repeal a law disallowing interracial marriages.
Don't worry, I may be living in NYC but I cast my ballot in Alabama. . .
Trying to fight the good fight,

Your parents made it back from Kiev in one piece, significantly jet-lagged but none the worse for wear. Oh, speaking of wearing, we're talking lost bags for three days. Do you know how hard it is to stay downwind of everybody all the time?
Kiev is a study of contrasts: lots of modernization and renovation, but large pockets of depressing Soviet Union-era apartments. The people are friendly, genuinely kind, and reserved, the latter no doubt a function of being punished for being outspoken.
The Cyrillic alphabet has got to go. It is impossible to get a toe-hold.
Anyway, now prepping for London. Love you girl, stay in touch,Love, Dad
